This business was formed in 2014 when I discovered there was a lack of companies offering an efficient and honest dropped kerb installation service in Devon. My father had been installing residential driveways for around 16 years and people kept asking if he knew anyone that offered dropped kerbs, as they had been let down or were struggling to find anyone who can deal with the council application process and install the job.

Since then we have installed hundreds of dropped kerbs throughout the Devon area, mostly in Exeter, Exmouth, Teignmouth, Torquay, Paignton, Brixham, Kingskerswell, Kingsteignton, Honiton, Crediton, Dartmouth, Shaldon, Bishopsteignton, Totnes, Marldon, Ashburton, Ivybridge, Kingsbridge, Sidmouth and Seaton.

Council Approved and Fully Insured

All of the local councils are very familiar with us, as we have been putting dropped kerb applications through every week since starting this business.

We take care of the whole council application process for your dropped kerb driveway access. The process is that we give you a free no obligation quotation, then you pay a deposit for our work, plus the council application fee. We then put in the dropped kerb application in to the council, notify you of a date when we will be installing the job, then we come and completed the works over usually two days.

We also install quality driveways and other surface types, so if you require a driveway installation, we would love to discuss your whole project.

Whether you require a tarmac dropped kerb or a concrete dropped kerb, we install all surface types to the highest standard you will see being installed.

We have a range of vehicle types including grab lorries, tipper lorries and transit tippers, that allow us to quickly and effectively move all of the waste material from your existing area and deliver the new materials back to site. This is essential with dropped kerbs, as it allows us to complete a thorough installation in a timely fashion.

Dropped Kerb and Driveway Installation in Roselands Paignton - Remys.uk
Tarmac Driveway and Concrete Dropped Kerb in Roselands Paignton

This was a driveway and dropped kerb project we completed in Helford Drive Roselands Paignton this year, where the customer wanted the existing concrete driveway and lawn dug out, and a new tarmac driveway and concrete dropped kerb installed. We have installed many driveways and dropped kerbs in Paignton, and can give endless addresses of these for you to visit to see our work.

We used our excavator and grab lorry to dig the whole area out to 225mm depth, installed concrete path edgings around the perimeter of the driveway, installed Aco drainage channels at the house end onto a new concrete bed and connected it to a new soak away that we dug, delivered, spread and compacted 125mm depth of type 1 hardcore, which gives a good solid base for the two layers of tarmac to be laid on top of. We laid a 70mm depth of tarmac base coat and a 30mm depth of tarmac top coat to complete the driveway build.

We then dug out the dropped kerb area, widening the existing one to the left and the right sides, installed new dropped kerb units on the road edge, put 5 inches of new hardcore into the area, compacted, followed by 4 inches of granite concrete for the dropped kerb surface. Coincidently we had already installed a large dropped kerb for the neighbour right opposite, and they didn't know of each other. Both customers were very happy with their installations. As you can see from the photo we achieve a very nice smooth texture on our tarmac driveways, and a flat and tidy finish on the concrete dropped kerb surface. We look forward to installing more jobs in Roselands Paignton!

Tarmac Dropped Kerb Installation in Shaldon

We installed this tarmac dropped kerb for a customer who had just moved to the beautiful area of Ringmore Shaldon, near Teignmouth.

We dug out the existing pavement area, supplied and installed rear path edgings as required to meet the highways spec, front dropped kerbs onto a new concrete bed, supplied and compacted 5" depth of new Type 1 Aggregate, then laid the two layers of tarmac to complete the dropped kerb installation.

Customer Testimonial for this dropped kerb reads as below:

"From initial contact to the end of the job we found the entire team went above and beyond. They dealt with the entire application process to our local council and wants approval was given and the license released to them they got on with it. They were careful to make the area safe with all the correct bollards in traffic signs. The construction and finishing of the crossover and lowering of the kerb is excellent even down to hand finishing an area of mosaic. The fact that so many passers by took their details is a recommendation in itself."

Dolphin Court Road Paignton Concrete Dropped Kerb installed by Remys.uk
Concrete Dropped Kerb at 1 Dolphin Court Road, Paignton

At this address in Paignton, we dug out an existing dropped kerb, took out five more high road kerbs, put new hard core into the whole dropped kerb length, the installed granite concrete to the whole dropped kerb area.
We installed one new quadrant kerb to the left hand end onto a new concrete base. As you can see, we lay the concrete up to a piece of timber, allowing us to get an even height against the road, then use a 4" smooth trowel with a rounded edge, to achieve a tidy rolled edge along the road side of the dropped kerb. We have to install this type of dropped kerb with a slight upstand, so comply with the Highways specification of an upstand of 25mm. This allows water running down the road to stay on the road, rather than coming up onto the pavement, which could freeze and become a slip hazard etc.
As you can see, we achieve a very flat surface, using a long bull float, then apply a very straight and tidy brushed finish surface to comply with the required council spec. We also have to use a council approved granite mixture of concrete for concrete dropped kerbs, which is a stronger mix than normal concrete. We have seen other firms use normal concrete, and then have to dig it all back out because they haven't used the correctly approved concrete mixture. A resin driveway was then installed at this address.

Tarmac Dropped Kerb installation in Exeter, Devon
Tarmac Dropped Kerb in Leypark Road, Exeter

At this address in Exeter, we were installed a tarmac dropped kerb. We installed new dropped kerb units along the road edge, making a wider entrance than they had previously. There was a lot of to-and-fro and meetings that we had to get through to be able to get this access approved. We don't charge for this service, or the in-person meetings I had to do to get the license through. On the right hand side the council wanted us to put some high kerbs back in, rather than just drop the whole lot all the way through.
As you can see we installed concrete path edgings against the driveway, and installed a lovely smooth tarmac surface. The customer can now get his caravan on and off the driveway parking area with ease.

If you mouse over the image, it will show what the path looked like before our dropped kerb installation.

Tarmac and Concrete Dropped Kerb Installation for Driveway access in Sidmouth - Remys.uk
Tarmac and Concrete Dropped Kerb Installation in Sidmouth, Devon

On this dropped kerb installation in Peasland Road Sidmouth, we created a new tarmac dropped kerb so that the customer could access his driveway and garden area from the side of their property. We dug out the area, took around 12 tons of waste material to the recycling tip, installed concrete path edgings onto a new concrete bed on his boundary line to contain the new tarmac. Devon County Council's spec required that we install path edgings if they are not already in place.
We also installed concrete path edgings on the verge side, took out the existing high road kerbs and the concrete shoulder below those, which took a lot of work even with our large hydraulic pecker that is mounted to our excavator! We then installed new dropped kerbs on the road edge, delivered hard core with our grab lorry, compacted it well, then installed a tarmac surface consisting of tarmac base coat and tarmac top coat. We also did a new concrete section to the side of this as the existing concrete dropped kerb was very cracked and broken up. The customer can now access their driveway with ease.

Concrete Dropped Kerb Installation, Eugene Road Paignton, Devon

This is a concrete dropped kerb we installed recently in Paignton. The customer's existing section of pavement was very old and cracked, and he wanted to extend both to the left and the right hand sides. We dug out the existing dropped kerb, plus the new sections to be able to widen the overall access into the driveway. We supplied and installed new quadrant kerbs at each end, supplied and installed 5" depth of new Type 1 Hardcore, compacted it well using our heavy compactor plate, then supplied and installed a new granite concrete surface to complete the dropped kerb. We apply a very straight brushed finish surface, which is what Highways require to meet the spec, then applied a tidy bullnosed front trowelled edge which gives a neat front rolled edge to the job. The timer we lay up to on the road edge is still in place in this photo, which is removed after the concrete has set.

Tarmac Dropped Kerb Installation in Exeter, Briar Crescent

This is a tarmac dropped kerb we installed in Briar Crescent in Exeter. We have fitted around 6 dropped kerbs in Briar Crescent over the years, which comes off Burnt House Lane.
We carefully took the thick wall down to provide access onto the driveway area. We installed dropped kerbs on the road edge, and concrete path edgings which lay between the dropped kerb and the driveway, as a delineation and gives the tarmac surface good support to stay in place. Highways specification insists these must be fitted if there are none previously installed.

Concrete Dropped Kerb Installation in Torquay, Lydwell Park

This is a concrete dropped kerb we installed in Torquay. Lydwell Park is in the Wellswood area, just off the main road at the top of Torwood Street.
We dug out the existing pavement, installed new hardcore, new quadrant kerbs, then spread and applied a brushed finish to the concrete to comply with Highways specifications.
We also dug out the are abehind the dropped kerb, which was challenging as there were a lot of service cables laid shallow. We dug a trench and lowered the service cables, saving the customer a large cost compaired to what they had been quoted by the service provider. We then supplied and compacted a lot of hardcore to give them access into the new site where they are now building a house.
